Walk: Lumsdale Valley
Start Point: Opposite Highfields School Grid Reference: SK 312 611
Distance: 0.5 miles
Time: 30 minutes
Weather: Sunny
Comments: The Lumsdale Valley, on the edge of Matlock, is one of the best archaeological sites in Great Britain. We only had time for a quick walk down the upper part of the valley.

The mills were powered by water from Bentley Brook
using a series of holding ponds and leats

The Middle Pond was part of the 1780s development but became
silted up and overgrown. It was re-instated in 2014.

Waterfalls flow over rocks . . .

and weirs . . .

making a very enjoyable walk . . .

down the valley . . .

especially in the sunshine.
